What Do You Know About Mexican Modernism? Gallery Talk at Proxyco / Soundbytes by Cultbytes

In this Soundbyte, Anna Mikaela Ekstrand talks to PROXYCO’s founders the Mexico City native Alexandra Morris and Laura Saenz, originally from Bogota about the gallery’s inaugural exhibition “Talon Rouge: Six Artists from Mexico Revisit José Juan Tablada and his New York Circle.” For the exhibition, PROXYCO commissioned six contemporary Mexican artists—Verónica Gerber, Javier Hinojosa, Iván Krassoievitch, Edgar Orlaineta, Marco Rountre and Fabiola Torres-Alzaga—to create works that reflect upon José Juan Tablada’s writings, influence, and aesthetic concerns, and the transnational dialogues that made this moment possible.

’Work in Progress’ gives you a glimpse of the ordinary, crazy, comical, and conflicted world of artists, in the midst of their creative process.

What is the Difference Between Abstract Painting and Abstract Action? / Soundbytes by Cultbytes

In this Soundbyte, Alexandra Bregman interviewed Chicago-born, New-York based performance artist Ayana Evans after one of her performances during a residency at El Museo del Barrio in New York. Bringing attention to her female black body, Evans performs many of her pieces in a skintight yellow zebra-printed catsuit. She has gained critical acclaim outside of the art world for her project ”I Just Came Here to Find a Husband,” a public intervention where she wears a sign with the statement.
