Shout-Out to Anna Sörenson

Anna Sörenson is one of my Art World Artist darlings! Her work in strongly based in theory; minimalism, anthroposophy and fluxus, she’s also crazy about Land Art.

I met Sörenson in New York while she was doing her MFA at Pratt, working at Sue Scott, AND Joseph Kosuth’s archive. She has since lived in Brussels where she attended a post-master program at a.pass, one of the leading institutions for performance studies. Currently she’s in Stockholm showing in exhibitions and selling million sek work by Damien Hirst for South African dealer Paul McCabe – that is when she isn’t busy working in her studio. (Superwoman?!!!)

In December Sörenson showed pencil drawings from a new series she’s been working on! The series is called Night Maps, inspired by John Cage’s musical compositions. They depict otherworldly geometric shapes and convoluted or escaping music scores – like sound the pieces are full of movemen. ALong the bottom there is a handwritten date and title, a signature of many of her series. The top image is from an earlier series she made in 2014 the bottom two are from the new series.

Her drawings were exhibited alongside work by her friend Ingrid Ogenstedt – who coincidentally also was working on drawings in pencil inspired by John Cage at Cigarrvägen 13 in Stockholm

Check out more of Anna Sörenson’s work here.
