From Art Books And Prints to Signed Toilet Paper: Damien Hirst’s Other Criteria

So Damien Hirst’s new store/gallery, Other Criteria, opened last week in Soho. I went to the store’s Wednesday and Friday events. It’s a beautiful space with a downstairs area that is an intimate gallery/events room. And with art world celebs like Jeffrey Deitch casually stopping by, PLUS warm teas and cocktails flowing, one couldn’t help but feel special.
This is a location with aspirational art for every budget with signed prints ranging from roughly $5000 – $9,000, a multitude of art books on Damien and his famous art Brit friends, AND very cool items like the Tim Noble and Sue Webster signed toilet paper above ($40). I fell in love with the I [Spot] DH t-shirts and totes. I’m not sure if I’m ready for the art conversations and eye-rolls that will ensue at my Bushwick hang-outs when I wear these items but I think I will take a deep breath and proudly defend my attachment to them.
Visit Other Criteria at 458 Broome St, NYC; Hours: Monday – Saturday 1-7 and Sunday 12-6
